In 2019, SunPower announced that it is splitting into two independent companies SunPower & Maxeon Solar Technologies. SunPower will remain headquartered in the United States, with its focus being North American solar markets. Maxeon Solar will be based in Singapore and focused on International markets & scaling the Maxeon technology.
Maxeon is splitting from SunPower with investments from long-time partner Tianjin Zhonghuan Semiconductor Co., Ltd. The split is expected to take place in Q2 of 2020. In early January, Maxeon Solar Technologies named their CFO, Joanne Solomon.
Both companies will benefit from the Section 201 Exclusion that SunPower was originally granted. Not much will be changing at SunPower in the United States & Canada Residential solar markets. SunPower remains committed to US manufacturing & continuing innovation.
